Dear Parent/Carer,
Welcome back to our final term for the 2021 school year. Term 4 is always busy with lots of school and out of school activities and events. In two weeks time we will be hosting our second annual Awards evening and all family members are welcome to attend. This will be a fantastic evening where we celebrate the many achievements of our students and announce our new junior (yr 9) student leaders for 2022. A registration link and information regarding the Awards evening is on this newsletter and will be advertised on Facebook also. I encourage people to register as soon as possible to reserve your seat.
At the conclusion of last term, all students achieved progress results for their work through Daymap, however unlike the end of Term 2, we will not be hosting parent/teacher interviews or emailing interim report cards for Term 3. Results from Term 3 student assessment has been added and is regularly updated within Daymap as drafts and final assessment is completed. Daymap online provides a great way for parents to see teacher/child assessment feedback, monitor academic progress and email/communicate with teachers as required. Parents are welcome to log in to Daymap at any time to view their child's academic progress in all subjects. As always, if you have questions or concerns regarding your child's progress or learning please speak to the relevant teacher or Head of Department. A the end of year, students will be issued a report card for Semester 2.
Many of you have been watching the building progress throughout the year and I am pleased to announce that our Stage 2 works are on track to be finished by the end of the year, ready for classes in 2022. Early next year we plan to host another Community Open Day to allow all current and future members of our school community to see these fantastic purpose-built facilities.
At this stage our total enrolments for years 7-10 next year will be around 600 students. Throughout this year we have been forward planning and preparing for this rapid growth with staff training and planning, employing additional teaching and non-teaching staff and reviewing our school policies and processes to make sure they are adequate for increased student numbers. As part of this process, there will be some changes for how we support students in 2022. In 2022, our Head of Departments will work closely with a year level, as opposed to student houses. We will appoint 4 House Coordinators who will oversee student welfare and wellbeing for a designated year level and these positions will be renamed, Year Level Coordinators to more accurately reflect their role. These changes, and a number of other minor changes will occur as we continue to refine, improve and scale-up our ability to make sure that our core values and goals are supported. Our College expectations for achieving excellence together through holding high professional and personal expectations, innovation, inclusion and connection to community will remain our focus as we continue to grow.
I want to thank the many parents and staff that make our college community the great place it is, and I look forward to celebrating our many achievements in a few weeks time.
Yours sincerely,
Emily Prenzler

Welcome back to term 4!
This term in English, our students in Year’s 8 and 9's will be the first to complete a novel study with our brand-new books – we are very excited as this marks another milestone first for our college. To maximise the longevity of our resources, and to ensure no student misses out, all reading will be completed in class. Therefore, it is vital that students are attending every English lesson.
Our Year 8 classes have already started contextualising their novels by looking at what it means to be a ‘teenager’. Mrs Martins and 8D took to drawing their thoughts, while Ms Champs’ classes created word arts to demonstrate their understanding.
With the success of the lunchtime English Homework Club last term, we will again offer this to students starting in week 6, through to the end of the assessment period – it was awesome to see so many students making the choice to maximise their chances for success.
A reminder to any of our students interested in entering The Simpson Prize essay competition as well as the Slam Poetry competition, both of which were advertised in our last newsletter.

WHAT IS MENTAL HEALTH
Mental health is a key component of overall health and wellbeing. We all have mental health!
How you think, feel, and act in order to face life’s situations…
For example, how you handle stress.
How you look at yourself, your life and the people in your life…
For example, how you relate to others.
How you evaluate your options and make choices…
For example, how you make decisions.
WHAT CAN I DO TO HELP MENTAL HEALTH AND WELLBEING?
The Queensland Government’s 'Dear Mind' campaign encourages Queenslanders to practise simple, everyday mental wellbeing activities from the Six Building Blocks of Mental Wellbeing. You can create a healthier relationship with your mind by doing activities to Get Healthy, Connect More, Keep Learning, Show Kindness, Take Notice and Embrace Nature.

Defence News
Welcome back to Term 4 for 2021. This term is a very busy one for RVSSC staff, students and their families. Halloween, Remembrance Day and all the events associated with the end of the year and Christmas, promises to keep us all very busy.
This term, the key focus for ADF students and their families is Remembrance Day. It is a memorial day that is observed in Commonwealth member states to mark the end of World War One and to remember those have fought and died in all Wars over time.
It is a time to reflect on what that means to us both as individuals and as a community, and to pay our respects to those who gave so much so that we may live freely.
Remembrance Day services will be held all around the Ipswich area including the RSL Ipswich Sub Branch. This Service will be held at:
The Ipswich RSL Sub Branch
63 Nicholas Street
Ipswich
Service Commences at 1030 hrs
Ripley Valley State Secondary College will also hold it's own service if families of the school wish to attend. Guests are asked to arrive at 0830hrs for an 0845hrs Service start. More information will be provided closer to the date.
Towards the end of Term 3, we held our Coffee and Chat, which was held at the Providence Splash and Play. We were lucky to have Brienne Gibbs, from Mates4Mates, (which is supported by the RSL), come along and provide information about what support this organisation offers to both currently serving and ex-serving ADF personnel.
By becoming a member of Mates4Mates (which is free) there are a multitude of workshops, support groups and activities that are available.
For more details, go to mates4mates.org
