Student Free Day
This Friday 30th August was a scheduled Student Free Day.  On this day all staff were engaging in curriculum or professional development activities.
Many parents/carers wonder why there is a designated Student Free Day at this point of the year. This Friday, the Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority (QCAA) will commence confirming the results of Year 12 students in their general subjects. They require almost 3000 teachers to be involved in this process to quality assure the judgements of teachers across the state to ensure results given to students are equitable - no matter where they attend school across Queensland. To support this process, the Department of Education schedules a student free day so that education services across the state are not interrupted by the 1000's of teachers who are employed by QCAA to conduct this process from Friday until Sunday this week.
At our college we are continuing to engage in professional development by completing our First Aid qualifications and continuing to review our Junior Curriculum as we implement Version 9 of the Australian Curriculum. This day allows us to have collaborative planning across our teaching teams to ensure we are aligned in our approach to Teaching and Learning at Ripley Valley SSC.
