Keeping Motivated
As the term draws to an end, it can be difficult for students to maintain their motivation. While there is no one approach that will work for everyone, here are some ideas that you can try to help your child improve their motivation before the break:
1. Focus on your child's strengths- offer praise for effort and improvement, even if it seems small. Share these successes and offer verbal/written praise.
2. Help them seek help - coach your child on how to ask the teacher for help if you think that this is something that they need.
3. Chunk down the task - if the workload seems overwhelming, help your child break down the work into small steps so that they can work through them in small bits at a time. Celebrate the completion of each step.
If you feel your child needs some more help with their motivation, encourage them to seek support from their teacher or the Guidance Officer.
