Science

Welcome back to Term 4! We are looking forward to exploring Earth Science with our Year 8 and 9 students this term. Students will be exploring how rocks are formed, minerals, natural events like volcanoes and earthquakes as well as the carbon cycle. Our Year 7 students will be exploring a guided inquiry physics task where they will work in small groups to design and test variables effecting flight with the real world context of spear throwing. Year 10 core students will be continuing their studies into genetics and evolution to end their year.
In Week 10 last term our Year 8 students presented the top 2 or 3 projects from their class on rusting prevention. This was a guided inquiry project over the last 2 weeks of term where students used their understanding of chemical change to apply to a real world problem. Students designed their own experiment and created a presentation for the school to then cast their votes for best project. Over 300 students and 20 teachers selected their top three projects. We saw some outstanding work from all teams and we are looking forward to announcing the winners at the first Junior parade this term!
