Defence News
Welcome back to term 4 and the rapid slide towards Christmas.
Postings
Term 4 is usually packed with activities and events in the lead up to the festive season. This is no exception for members of Defence families, however, while many of us will soon be unpacking Christmas decorations and planning family get togethers, for ADF families, it is a time to prepare to move to new locations across Australia, to say good-bye to friends and family, or, if they are lucky enough, to reunite with them if they are returning to a previous posting location.
This is recognised as one of the most stressful times of the year for military families, as, along with the stress of the move, there is also the uncertainty of housing and schooling for their children.
RVSSC recognises these challenges, and aims to minimise any extra stress for families who may be departing, by providing our ADF students with as much support as we can to make their transition in schools as seamless as possible. Families are encouraged to liaise with the school or myself, so that we can work together to help minimise the impact postings have on all the family.

Support for Defence Families with Special Needs
Moving can be a challenging process for any family, but when you have a family member who has special needs, the complexity and stress can be even greater. Recognising this, Defence offers additional assistance to Defence families who have a resident family member with special needs. These support services are designed to make the relocation process smoother and more accommodating. You may be able to access a Pre-posting Visit to your new location, valet unpacking service special accommodation during removal, extra travel time when moving homes, educational assistance and/or extra housing assistance. In addition to the practical support provided by Defence, we also collaborate with the Defence Special Needs Support Group (DSNSG). The DSNSG serves as a national support network for families with special needs, offering resources, guidance, and a community of individuals who understand the unique challenges faced by Defence families. For more information on assistance measures visit the Defence website or email specialneeds.families@defence.gov.au
