Science
Our Year 8 students have been involved in another College first this term when they continued their exploration into Particle Theory and States of Matter by observing and performing dry ice experiments. Students were able to watch teachers demonstrate some of the properties of dry ice including sublimation, it's ability to change the acidity of water and extinguish flames. Students were then able to create bubbles of carbon dioxide gas and observe the dense gas falling out of the cup. Student feedback was that this was an exciting learning opportunity and it was wonderful to visit so many classrooms to see students so engaged in their Chemistry studies.
In Week 6 it will be National Science week. The theme for 2024 is Innovation. We will be celebrating this on the oval at our College on Tuesday 15th August at second break. Students will have the opportunity to fly water rockets and discuss the innovative advances in the space race and rocket technology. Our Year 7 students will also have the chance to build bionic hands and discuss artificial limbs. This should be great fun and we would love to see your student on the oval to participate.
A reminder that we are heading into assessment periods and students will be preparing assignments or revising for exams. If your student is unwell or absent, please submit an extension request so that we are able to make arrangements to support their learning. We look forward to finishing the term strong and continuing our explorations into the world around us.
