Defence News

The approaching holidays are a reminder that we are now halfway through the school year.

ANZAC SERVICES

Term 2 has seen two ANZAC Day services held at Ripley Valley SSC, along with an invitation for our Principal and Defence Peer Mentors to attend Ripley Central State School's very first ANZAC Day service.

Our Defence Peer Mentors, Jackson Sheen and Ben Coop, delivered a speech at the Providence ANZAC Day Dawn service that was held at the College, which was a very proud moment both for their parents and the College.

Our College ANZAC assembly was a moving tribute to our ANZAC's. The service was attended by representatives of the Ipswich Council and officiated by Royal Australian Air Force Chaplain, Wayne Ross, who delivered words of reflection and a prayer.

Our Defence Peer Mentors will be kept busy in the following two terms, with the upcoming commemorations for the Battle of Fromelles, Vietnam Veterans Day and Remembrance Day.
COFFEE & CHAT
In Week 5, the Defence parent Coffee and Chat was held.  The focus of this terms catch up was to show our Defence families how much the college appreciates the support they give to their Defence Members.  The military lifestyle is one of frequent challenges and upset routines for families due to the service commitments of their loved ones.
The parents were able to to get together to share their experiences and pass on their advice for coping with various challenges they face, all while enjoying a hot drink and a bite to eat. It is always nice to have a few laughs in the mix too.
The Coffee and Chat get togethers are held once a term, and offers parents an opportunity to get to know other Defence families of the college, and to seek advice or support information from the Defence Member and Family Support Branch and the Defence School Mentor.
