Year 7 Dance Students have recently completed their performance task. Students gained confidence in their performance skills and took the stage with great technical and expressive skills! They have now started their final task for the year, choreography. Students will take on the challenge of creating their own dance performance as they "dance through the ages". They will apply their knowledge of the Elements of Dance and cleverly use choreographic devices as they work in groups to finish their master piece.
9 Dance
Year 9 Dance students have recently submitted their blog post and are happily waving goodbye their theory unit. Students will take on the challenge of creating their own dance performance with a Musical mash up. They will apply their knowledge of the Elements of Dance and cleverly use choreographic devices to individually choreograph their section before they take on the role of the teacher to take turns teaching their group members.
10 Dance
Year 10 Dance students have recently submitted their choreography task. Students were required to portray their chosen social issue in their piece. Most students were brave and opted to do this task as a solo! The creativity behind their ideas and communication of their social issue were both innovate and thought provoking.
The year 10's are now moving onto their final task for the year. The students will be revising all of their knowledge of dance theory so that they can prepare to respond to an unseen dance works in exam conditions. This task is preparing students for Senior Dance in year 11 and 12.
Dance Squad
Dance Squad recently performed their hit routine "Nicest Kids in Town" at RVSSC's awards night. This is sadly one of their final performances of the year as we wrap up the year with a fabulous night at Showcase! Congratulations to our dancers on an astounding year with many triumphs, such as their first eisteddfod! Keep an eye on notices as we announce the date for Dance auditions as these will be held this year! We cannot wait to see you all.
Drama
8 Drama
This term, drama students have steeped into the role of a Director. Learning how to annotate scripts with movement and expression as well as design costumes and scenery appropriate for the chosen text. Students have also been considering the importance of equality and eliminating unintentional racism as they explore theme of reconciliation within the Australian play text, 'Honey Spot'. This has really encouraged students to reflect on their behaviours and think about how this message can be shared through a theatrical format.
9 Drama
Remember Mr. Bean? The Three Stooges? Did you know that still style of slap stick comedy originated in the Italian Renaissance era and came from a theatrical style named Commedia Dell Arte. Year 9 students have been stepping right out of their comfort zone to become the Stock Characters from the Commedia style and improvise scenario's using the convention of 'Lazzi' which is a form of comedy. Students are also making comparisons of the historic style and new age sitcoms such as Big Bang Theory, Friends, How I met Your Mother and more.
10 Drama
Year 10 Drama students were immersed in the style of Australian Gothic Theatre. Engaging in a historically-set process drama, students worked in an ensemble to improvise and solve clues, all while remaining in role. There were even some teacher cameo roles! It was wonderful to see students working together and enjoying themselves as they learned about a new style in a practical way.
Dance Troupe
Drama Troupe have been gearing up to present some snippets of their work at the Arts Showcase. Ivy Shambitt and The Sound Machine is story of dark secrets, mysterious undergoing's, magic and exposing the truth no matter how deep it is buried. Students are building on their confidence, rehearsing their dialogue and looking forward to stepping into the spotlight.
