The Creative Industries team are excited to have our new Plasma CNC up and running. This term our staff had a training day on how to safely use the machine and teach our upcoming engineering classes. We have even created our new ANZAC statue which was sponsored by the RSL and this will be unveiled on Remembrance Day at our College.

Workshop and Classroom Safety
Workshop safety rules are designed to keep everyone safe in a design and technology workshop environment. The Queensland Department of Education (DoE) acknowledges that an effective and productive Industrial Technology and Design (ITD, formerly Manual Arts) curriculum involves a significant amount of
high risk practical workshop curriculum activity. Such experiences provide opportunities to introduce students to the concept of risk management and safe work practices.

Naturally, it is essential that all ITD staff are fully conversant with the management of safety in their workplace and that they carefully plan curriculum activities. To ensure the quality of safety education in ITD subjects, which comes under the Design and Technologies Department at Ripley Valley State Secondary College,
Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) procedures that are linked closely to those of Industry practices have been implemented.
It is essential for ITD students to follow these procedures, outlined in the Industrial Technology and Design Safety Policy. The majority of accidents in a workplace are caused by human factors and students will need to show a mature attitude and display safe working practices at all times.
Our Design Technology rooms have clear Safety Rules located in each room.  It is important that all students follow these and the instruction given to them by their teacher. Students that fail to follow these will be asked to write out these rules or resit the class safety quiz before they can re-enter the practical workshop.
