Mathematics
On Monday 11th July seven of our Maths teachers participated in a exclusive professional development workshop at the University of Queensland (UQ).
This workshop is the start of a ongoing 3 year research project funded by the Commonwealth Government to improve students understanding, engagement and accessibility with Maths. This program is being lead by educational researchers from UQ and will involve a number of professional development workshops, collaborative planning sessions with the UQ team and many classroom observations and feedback sessions. The teaching team hope to further develop their skills to better support all learners in our classrooms.
As one of five high schools selected in Queensland, and as the only state high school, we are proud to have been selected to participate in this prestigious project that will contribute to the research and teaching of Maths principles and skills at a national level.
Well done team and we look forward to sharing our journey with you over the coming months and years.
In other news, we are so excited to be welcoming two new teachers to our faculty this term. Miss Kara Hanson is teaching Maths, Science and HPE and Mr Nathan Meredith joins us as a Maths and Science teacher. We are so excited to welcome these teachers to our team.
Students are being invited to nominate themselves to participate in the Australian Mathematics Competition. This competition is a 2 hour paper based, exam style challenge that will challenge their critical thinking skills against general numeracy components. If your child wishes to be involved, they need to register their interest by seeing Mrs Reeves at the College before Wednesday 20th July, Week 2 of the term.
