Health and Physical Education

Welcome back to Term 2 to all our RVSSC community members. We hope everyone had a wonderful and relaxing break and time was spent with loved ones.

Last Term, the students within their HPE classes endured a whole range of new curriculum experiences in both theoretical and practical methods. Students set goals and procedures to achieve these goals at the start of the Term. This Term sees our students reviewing these goals and identifying if they have achieved them, and areas where they could improve.

Year 7 HPE Students will begin to look at Food & Nutrition during theory and Minor Games in Prac. Throughout the Food & Nutrition unit, students will investigate the importance of good nutrition options in a sustainable school tuckshop. They will begin by exploring what it means to eat healthy. During prac, they will examine the cultural and historical significance of physical activities and examine how connecting to the environment can enhance health and wellbeing.  They will develop an understanding and appreciation of Australian Indigenous culture through participating in traditional Indigenous games.

Year 8 HPE Students will begin to look at Fitness Techniques during theory and Fitness Testing during Prac. Throughout the Fitness Techniques unit, students will investigate fitness strategies that develop health-related fitness components, in order to create and monitor personal fitness plans. They will design and monitor a personal fitness plan. During prac, they will perform physical activities that improve health related components of fitness and analysing how the components are developed through these activities.

Year 9 HPE Students will continue in their 7 week units undergoing Diversity & Inclusion for Theory and Volleyball for Prac. Following Week 4, Year 9 Students will enter a new Theory/Prac rotation seeing them explore decision making processes in Sports Ethics and engaging in the sport of Oz-Tag.

Year 10 Sport and Rec Students will be engaged in learning experiences to develop their understanding and skills in coaching principles. They will be required to demonstrate and refine these coaching skills in a range of physical activity contexts through the planning of a coaching session of a skill to Year 7 HPE students.

Year 10 Health Students will focus on researching statistics of smoking in youths in our local area and within the states and territories of Australia. The year 10 Health classes will be forming groups for their assessment to design a 'display' in which they will create a poster, some kind of info-graphic or brochure and will also plan a small activity to promote awareness of the risks associated with smoking and promote healthier choice.

We look forward to another exciting and busy Term and wish all of our students every success in reaching their goals.
