English, Humanities & Languages
A warm welcome back to students and families from the English, Humanities and Languages faculty.
Term 2 is always a notoriously busy term. This term our Year 7’s and 9’s will participate in NAPLAN, while our Year 10’s will have their first ever exam block.
This term in English, the majority of our students will be studying narratives. Parents and caregivers can support their children by having conversations about the way’s stories are constructed. This can include the story lines in T.V programs and movies, not just in novels. Year 10 Extension English students will be studying War Poetry, and the ways literature has both reflected and changed the values, attitudes and beliefs of society across times of war and peace.
In Humanities this term, students will switch to the study of History. Year 7’s will be studying Ancient Egypt, while our year 8’s will be studying Medieval times. To coincide with ANZAC Day, our year 9’s will study World War 1 this term. Our year 10 History students will be looking at modern history starting with the civil rights movement. Legal Studies students will be examining the role of the law in issues relating to technology.
In Japanese, our year 8 students will be visiting the Nerima Garden’s this term as well as getting the opportunity to connect digitally with Sammu City Matsuo Junior High School in Japan. These two opportunities are an excellent way for our students to put into practise their speaking and listening skills.
We look forward to working with you and your children again this term.
