Technology @ RVSSC

I.T @ RVSSC
Just a reminder that students are required to bring their laptop to school each and every day. They are not allowed to bring chargers to school, as laptops should be fully charged each night. If students require their laptop to be charged they can come and see Mr McAully to leave on charge for a session. It is also a requirement that students bring their laptop case everyday.
Students who do not have their laptop each day, their laptops are not charged consistently or do not have their laptop case will get detentions. Please help us in setting home routines that allow for students to be successful at school.
Parent Access to Daymap - needed for Parent Teacher Interview bookings
For those of you who have not yet set up their Daymap Parent Portal accounts please email tech@ripleyvalleyssc.eq.edu.au to have your password and instructions reset and sent to you. You will need access to this for Parent Teacher Interview bookings in the coming weeks, and appointments fill up fast.
Home Filtering
We are often asked by parents on how they can keep their children both safe online, how much 'technology' time children should be getting at home, and how to get their children off games.
Our answer is always simple. Active Supervision to ensure safety, meaning we encourage you to sit with your child and view their social media accounts, view messages, snaps and tiktok videos to ensure that you are happy with their online relationships and digital identities and that they have all security and safety features set to high.  We do not advise on time limits, or how to get children off their games as that can be different for every family. However to support families in these decisions we do recommend Family Zone for home filtering and monitoring. Family Zone allows you to get weekly reports of all online activity, monitors all devices (laptops, phones, iPads etc), and allows you to turn the internet off each or all devices as you see fit. You can also set time limits and remove access to certain websites or games as you see fit.
Trends we are seeing at RVSSC
At the moment we are experiencing a spike in students accessing 'ghost' phones. These are phones that parents are not aware of, to access multiple fake social media accounts. I would encourage parents to monitor student social media usage and report unsafe pages, messages and photos to the social media site itself to be blocked.

eSport Update
Congratulations to our eSports team who recently walked away as the winning school from the recent QUT eSports competition held on Saturday 12th March.  Our Rocket League and League of Legends team left undefeated, while the Overwatch team lost just 1 game and came out the champions!

Our 'Just Dance' team competes on Wednesday 23rd March 2022, and we look forward to reporting back to our Community on their success.

If you have any questions relating to laptops or student accounts please email tech@ripleyvalleyssc.eq.edu.au
