2022 Student Leadership

Our Year 8 students are approaching that time of year where they need to start considering if they would like to be a Junior College Leader in 2022. Yesterday we offered an information session to all interested students to attend so that they could begin to understand the positions available and what is required of them through the application process. We have listed the positions below, if your child is interested in being a student leader so you can support your child through this journey.

Application Process

  • Students are able to apply for more than one position
  • Students will only complete one written application even if they are applying for more than one position
  • Students will state on the application which positions they are applying for
  • Only Junior College Captain & Junior Vice College Captains are required to submit a one minute video pitch

Timeline

Our aim is to prepare the students prior to the applications being open. We will be offering the following sessions every Wednesday at second break in F07 in the weeks to come. To assist with this we have organised for all Year 8 students to participate in a Leadership workshop run by an external facilitator, Ylead. This session will occur on Thursday 9th September and be primarily based in the Raptor Dome for the day. It aims to help students identify their own leadership skills and potential.

Our Student Leaders will be announced at our Annual Awards Night on October 20th 2021. This means that all students who apply for positions will need to attend Awards night. 

Term 3

Week 6 - Information session

Week 7 – “How to” application writing session

Week 8 – Q&A session

Week 9 – Applications open Monday 6/9/21 and are due by Sunday 12/9/21

Week 9 – Ylead Student Leadership workshop in the Raptor Dome (all year 8 students) 9/9/21

Week 10 – Applications go out to Student and Staff votes

Term 4

Week 3 – Student Leaders announced at Awards Night

Positions will be awarded based off the following:

  • Written/Video application
  • Student & Staff vote
  • Effort/Behaviour and upholding of the Student Representation Policy
  • Review from Executive Team

Students who are unsuccessful in obtaining one of the above leadership positions will have the opportunity to apply for Student Representative Council positions in Term 1 2022.

Special Awards

Ripley Valley State Secondary College will be hosting its annual Awards Night on Wednesday 20th October 2021. There will be four special awards that students can nominate themselves for:

P&C Junior Citizenship Award is sponsored by the Parent and Citizens Association.

College Culture Award is sponsored by the State Member for Bundamba, Honourable Lance McCallum MP.

Federal Member for Blair Member Junior Leadership Award Sponsored by Hon Shayne Neumann MP Federal Member for Blair Shadow Minister for Veterans’ Affairs and Defence Personnel

Innovation Award is sponsored by Modern Teaching Aids.

Students may nominate themselves for single or multiple awards of which they have successfully demonstrated each of the criteria. The application form and further information can be found via the following link.

R U OK Day

Our Student Representative Council (SRC) are working behind the scenes to prepare lots of activities in recognition of R U OK Day. We will be recognising the day next Wednesday 9th September and our SRC will be hosting activities across Access Classes, first break and second break. Our wonderful Chef Claire will be making R U OK day cupcakes which will be on sale for $2 each at first break. Please bring cash if you would like to purchase a cupcake.

Rewards Day

Rewards Day is fast approaching on Friday 17th September. Invitations have gone out to students to attend our Inflatable Fun on the oval provided by Supercastles. Activities include Vertical Rush Obstacle Course, Jumping Castle, Disco Dome & Soccer Darts.    

Students will participate in a half day rotation of inflatable fun on the oval & movies and minor games in the hall.

Uniform requirement: Students are required to wear their school uniform. Students will not be allowed to wear shoes on the inflatable equipment.

 

Lunch: Students will have their regular lunch breaks. The canteen will be open for pre-orders which will be brought to the oval or students can go up to canteen on their break.

 

Other:  Our school sun safety policy applies to the outdoor portion of this event. Students will need to have hats whilst out on the oval and we highly encourage that they bring a water bottle on the day. Students will be supervised by Staff whilst on the inflatable equipment. Students will be required to follow the safety guidelines provided by staff in a briefing prior to using the equipment. Any behaviour that breaches these guidelines will result in the offenders being removed from the inflatable equipment for the remainder of the day. In the event of wet weather, the Term 3 Rewards Day will be cancelled and any monies paid for this event will be credited back to parents/carers accounts.

 

Cost & Permission: Students have been invoiced and can now start paying the $6 fee to student services. Please use the link below to access permission form. Permission and payments are due by Friday 10th September 2021. Late payments and permission will not be accepted.
