      Welcome to Week 8!

      due_dates.png

We are very busy over the next two weeks ‘hitting the books’, with all English students in the drafting, feedback, editing, and assessment phase of the term. It is very important that students are at school, and in class as much as possible during this time to ensure they have the best chances for success.

This term in English, all students are working toward a spoken presentation that they can either present ‘live’ to the class, or pre-record at home, and submit on a USB. Although this is a spoken task, students are required to submit their written draft for feedback. To maximise their chances for success, submitting a full and complete draft on the due date is incredibly important. You will have received your child’s assessment schedule detailing draft and final submission due dates. Please encourage your child to work hard to submit a quality draft, this way feedback will only improve their result.

It is very important that students are at school, and in class as much as possible during this time to ensure they have best chances for success. If you have any concerns, please contact your child’s teacher.

Last Friday, 29 students from across our college participated in the ‘Write a Book in a Day’ Competition, raising awareness and funds for the Kids Cancer Project. The competition saw our students get the ‘rules’ at 8:00am, they then had 12 hours to plan, write, edit, illustrate and publish their book; our last team finished at 7:15pm. A huge thank you to Miss Champs for her organisation and leadership of the event.

Students will be presented with their certificates on parade next week, and their books will be available to read in our school library once they are printed. Congratulations everyone!

Do you love lyrics or rap? Do you love to speak out loud or write your words, thoughts and feelings?  The Domestic Violence Action Centre invites all students aged 15 – 25, to join this brilliant opportunity to work with award winning and professional poet Anisa Nandaula and educator Sinéad Nunan, in a poetry writing and ‘slam’ performance workshop, exploring ideas about what it means to, “Fight Like a Girl” in 2021. This is a free event with iPad’s and other prizes on offer, but you must register.  Interested and eligible students can see Ms Diesing for more information.  The work shop will take place early next term and students are encouraged to register their interest early.

Lastly, congratulations to 15 students from across our College who have successfully completed the Premier’s Reading Challenge. These students will be presented with their certificates on parade.
