Deputy Principal - Culture and Development

Awards Evening

The Awards Evening will be held in the Sport Hall (the Raptor Dome) on Wednesday the 20th October 2021.  The Awards Evening provides a great opportunity to recognise the achievement of students.  It also plays an important role in forging a strong sense of College tradition.  Undercover parking is available under the Sport Hall and accessible via Parkway Avenue.  Please arrive at 6.15 pm for a 6.30 pm start.  Parents and carers of students are invited to join us for this special occasion.  An overview of the Awards that will be presented this year are listed below:

Subject Awards - Awarded to the Student that achieves the highest academic performance in each subject.

Gold Raptor Awards- This award recognises exceptional performance across 4 criteria: GPA (Grade Point Average), Attendance, Effort and Culture (points awarded for participation in College extra curricular activities).  Each category is worth 5 points and students must achieve 17 out of 20 points to achieve a Gold Raptor Award.  We will also be awarding Silver and Bronze Raptor Awards. Silver Raptors will be recognised on Parade and Bronze Raptors will be acknowledged during Access Class.  

Deputies Awards

This year sees the introduction of a new award category, the Deputy Principal Awards.  These awards are awarded to students that received a Gold Raptor last year and also receive a Gold Raptor this year.  

Special Awards

P&C Junior Citizenship Award (sponsored by the Ripley Valley State Secondary College P&C Association)-awarded to the student that demonstrates exceptional service to College culture and the broader community.

Junior Leadership Award (sponsored by Hon Shayne Neumann MP-Federal Member for Blair-Shadow Minister for Veterans' Affairs and Defence Personnel) awarded to the student that demonstrates exceptional leadership qualities within the College and broader community.

College Culture Award sponsored by the State Member for Bundamba, Honourable Lance McCallum MP.  The College Culture Award is presented to the student who exemplifies and promotes an inclusive College culture for all students

Innovation in STEM Award (sponsored by Modern Teaching Aids).  Awarded to the student that demonstrates excellent academic achievement across STEM subjects and commitment to innovative practices. 

Students can apply for the Special Awards listed above through Daymap.  Applications opened earlier this week and close on Sunday the 12th September.  Students will be required to provide evidence to support their application.  

Sports Awards

Sporting excellence will also be acknowledge on the night, with the awarding of Age Champion Awards, Team of the Year and Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year.

We are currently in the process of finalising award recipients.  Parents/carers of Special Award Recipients will be notified prior to the Awards Evening.  Students receiving Subject Awards and Raptor Awards will be published on Daymap prior to the Awards Evening.  School and House Captains will also be announced during the Awards Evening.  Students receiving Awards will be required to attend a rehearsal prior to the evening.

Please complete the Pre-registration Form below to register to attend the evening before Wednesday the 13th October 2021 to assist us with our preparations for this event.  The College will follow the latest COVID-19 Safe Guidelines.  Please remember to register your attendance by using the Check in Qld App upon entry into the Sports Hall.
