Helping Your Teen Manage Exam Stress
As we reach the end of the semester, demands around assessment increase which can lead your teenager to become stressed. Here are some tips on helping your teenage to manage exam and assessment stress:
1. Give them time off chores to help them to focus on their studies.
2. Encourage extra-curricular activities, it is essential that young people can switch off and partake in enjoyable activities.
3. Help them to set up a study space that is quiet and away from distractions.
4. Encourage healthy eating and sleeping habits.
5. Talk to them about what is worrying them.
Updates from Student Support Services
In week 9 of this term, we welcome our new Guidance Officer Janet Ingram as I will be going on maternity leave. If you would like to book a time to meet with Janet, please phone the office.
We also have Shanee Wood who has joined out team as a Youth Worker. Shanee works Monday, Wednesday and Friday. To book to see Shanee, students can email or send her a Daymap message. Shanee is also available at break times, students will usually find her in Foundation Park.
Support Program Updates
This term, 6 students were invited to partake in the Traction Bike Building program. This 9 week mentoring program involved stripping, painting and building bikes. We have had some great feedback from the students and hope to run it again next year.
Wellbeing Events
In line with our PERMAH model of wellbeing, each term students are invited to participate in a range of activities to support mental health and wellbeing. This term we hosted the Wellbeing Expo and in week 10, attended the Talkin It Up Youth Forum in Ipswich and a group of year 9 students are completing the Teen Mental Health First Aid training.
Next term, Brainstorm Productions will perform "The Hurting Game" in week 3 (students attending have already been invoiced). We also have RU OK? Day which will be acknowledged through a range of activities.
