DANCE

All Dance students have now officially finished their theory units and are back in the Dance room. It was great to see so many excellent results come in after theory exams and assignments but most of all the effort and perseverance shown across these units were outstanding.  Year 9’s wrote and recorded a podcast that critiqued the use of the elements of Dance from the contemporary Andrew Winghart routine “Cry me a river.” Year 7’s sat an exam where they evaluated the jazz routine “Ruby Blue”.

Now that we are back into prac we will see year 7 students working together to create their own Popular Dance routine. Year 9 students are choreographing a contemporary routine that has to show the emotion of either love or hate. All classes will showcase their work for assessment in week 9.

DANCE SQUAD

The Dance Squad has been rehearsing hard to complete their contemporary routine. They train every Wednesday morning at 7.15am. This year the team is working on skill development and will be partaking in performance opportunities internally within the school and also out in the community. As the squad’s skills grow we will look at entering local competitions. Soon the team will move onto learning their Hip Hop routine (which is highly anticipated). Costumes should be arriving soon so that our students will look (and dance) the part!

DRAMA

Drama students are having fun in the classroom as they participate in improvisational acting activities. This helps to develop their confidence and skills as they move into rehearsing their Children’s Theatre scripts. Students created their own storyline which is aimed at Prep aged students. They had to come up with a moral of the story and then turn their ideas into a script which they will then perform on stage for assessment in week 9. Year 8 students who are studying Drama this year will get to select Drama as an elective subject for year 9 next year.

ART
Its hard to spend a lot of time drawing and then erase it all. That is exactly what our year 8 art students are doing through their extinction studies. They are exploring different techniques to remove their work, drawing from real taxiderm animals hired from the Queensland Natural Museum.
