With so many of our students actively using social media and with a large percentage admitting to having multiple accounts on various social media platforms, it is a timely reminder to please ensure you are supervising the use of your child's social media accounts. At school, students have been talking about 'Finsta's'. A finsta is a fake Instagram account - where students are creating accounts that parents do not know about, and in some cases, a place to post content so friends / family cannot see.
We are also hearing about 'burner phones', where students have a phone their parents know about and monitor, and another phone that parents do not know about and has all their fake social media accounts stored. Unfortunately, it is usually from these fake social media accounts that bullying occurs. It is imperative that parents work with their children to ensure they are safe online.
Please talk to your child about these dangerous behaviours, and remind them of the appropriate use of social media. We encourage you to post any information about these behaviours, or incidents at www.stymie.com.au
School laptop Expectations
We are seeing an increased number of students coming to school with laptops that have not been charged. Please ensure you have a system at home to help remind your child to put their laptops on charge each night so that they are prepared for learning each day. Chargers are NOT allowed at school as they are a safety hazard. Student laptop batteries are made to last all day - and if they are not lasting a school day, they need to visit Tech Support. Students are also required to bring their laptop case to school each day, and have the Ripley Valley sticker on their laptops at all times as it provides extra protection for their device. Cases are $35 to replace, and stickers are $10 replace. If you have any questions please email tech@ripleyvalleyssc.eq.edu.au
