Principal's Report
Dear Parents/Carers,
As we approach the end of Term 1, I want to thank the staff, students and parents for a fantastic start to the year. Over the past few weeks I have been constantly reminded of the many 'small' things that people do to make our College such a great place to work, learn and be a part of.
One such moment was our College's involvement in the Leukaemia Foundation's Shave for a Cure fundraiser last week. Over $3000 was raised with several staff and students donating hair, waxing leg hair and colouring hair for this worthy cause. I thank the students and Mr Ezzy for organising this event and promoting within our College community.
Our college sporting teams have also experienced high levels of success in a range of large inter-school competitions of late. Our girls basketball team won the Yagera inter-school sporting competition, with our boys and girls futsal teams placed 3rd in the same competition. Our eSports team placed 2nd overall in a highly competitive Brisbane based competition and our futsal team also placed 2nd in a separate Brisbane futsal competition. For a small school that competes against much larger schools with older students we have performed extremely well and these results are a credit to our staff and students dedication to achieving excellence in all they do.
It has also been a privilege over the past few weeks to visit classrooms and see the tremendous work our students are engaged in through their learning. Students are actively seeking feedback on their academic progress, what they can do to improve their grade and applying themselves to their assessment. I encourage students and parents to talk to their teachers about their child's academic progress and what they can do to improve their results in individual subjects. A great tool to help parents in this process is to create a Daymap account so that you can see when your child's assessment is due, see your child's assessment draft feedback and see real-time assessment results as assessment is marked and uploaded by teachers onto Daymap. For parents yet to register in Daymap I encourage you to visit our website to follow the instructions/video on how to do this.
Our Stage 2 building works continue to progress and they are on track for completion by the end of this year, ready for use at the start of 2022. As our building program grows, so too does our staffing recruitment. Next term we plan to welcome at least 2 new staff to our college being a Head of Department for English, Humanities and languages and a specialist maths/science teacher.
All in all, Term 1 has been a great start to the school year and as we countdown to the Easter holidays I hope you can enjoy time with friends, family and a well deserved rest.
Yours sincerely,
Brendan Krueger
