Deputy Principal - Culture and Engagement
I hope everyone enjoyed a well-deserved break and has returned feeling recharged for the final stretch before Christmas. As we head toward the end of the year, there are several exciting events and celebrations on the College calendar. These include:
Queensland Mental Health Week (QMHW):
We kicked off Term 4 by celebrating Queensland Mental Health Week - a statewide initiative that encourages all Queenslanders to connect with the people, places, and activities that support their mental wellbeing. At Ripley Valley SSC, we marked the occasion with a range of activities, including the Deamer’s Festival music concert, a Native Oz Bushfoods workshop, and our annual Wellbeing Expo, which featured a variety of external providers. It was once again a fantastic opportunity for students to reflect on their mental health and take part in experiences that promote positive wellbeing.
Awards Evening:
Preparations are well underway for our Annual Awards Evening, to be held on Wednesday 22nd October (Week 3) from 6:00pm in the RaptorDome. This special night recognises student excellence through the presentation of Raptor Awards, Special Awards, Subject Awards, and the announcement of our 2025 School Leaders. Invitations will be distributed this week to families of students who will be receiving awards. We look forward to celebrating the hard work, talent, and achievements of our students.
Remembrance Day Service:
Our Remembrance Day Service will take place on Monday 10th November at 8:45am in the RaptorDome. Parents, Carers and friends of the College are invited to attend this service as we commemorate those who have given the ultimate sacrifice for their Nation.
In addition, Ripley Valley SSC will again be represented at the Ipswich RSL Service on Tuesday 11th November, where our two Defence Peer Mentors will lay a wreath at the Honour Stone — a gesture of respect and remembrance for all who have served and sacrificed in conflicts around the world.
End of Term Rewards Trip:
At the end of this Term students in Years 7 – 9 will have the opportunity to attend the Rewards Trip to Wet‘n’Wild on Monday 8th December. To attend this event students will need to complete a Microsoft Forms application which will be send out later in the Term.
As part of the application process students must acknowledge the following:
- My current approved attendance is over 95% (see Daymap Profile for details)
- I have not received more than 2 Administrative Detentions this Term
- I have not received a suspension this Term
- I have completed all assessment, drafts and exams to date
- My parents/carers give permission for me to attend the RVSSC Reward Trips
Further information about this event will be made available throughout the Term.
I wish all students a successful final Term and look forward to celebrating their achievements on Awards Night.
Regards,
Daniel Pym
