Defence News

Term two sees the end of the warm weather, and the arrival of the short working week...many of them!  This can be a disruptive time for students, especially in the lead up to assessments and exams.  Fortunately, we are back to full weeks and full steam ahead.  Here is what's new at the Defence Hub.
COFFEE AND CHAT
Last week, Defence parents gathered for their term meeting with the Defence School Mentor.
Coffee and Chat provides an opportunity for Defence parents, new and existing, of the college to meet, network, set up important support networks and learn more about available support from the Defence Member and Family Support Branch and Ripley Valley State Secondary College.
This term, parents were able to listen to Soldier On representative, Haley Salta, and learn about the support and benefits Soldier On offers to Defence Members and their families.
Soldier On is a not-for-profit organisation delivering holistic support services that enable current and former Australian Defence Force personnel, and their families, to lead meaningful civilian lives.

Soldier On offers free support services, programs, and activities to registered participants, including Health & Wellbeing, Employment, Learning and Education and Participation and Connection.

For more information about the work Soldier On provides, go to:

DEFENCE SPECIAL NEEDS SUPPORT GROUP

The Defence Special Needs Support Group (DSNSG) is a non-profit benevolent volunteer organisation founded to assist Army, Navy, and Air Force families who have a special needs family member.

On 1 January 1994, a small group of Defence families were brought together by a common bond, all having a family member with special needs and finding it difficult to locate appropriate services due to the mobility nature of the Defence life.

DSNSG has grown into a national organisation with local support groups across Australia and overseas.

If you would like more information about the services the Defence Special Needs Support Group provides, you can go to the following website:

DEFENCE HUB
The Defence Hub will now be open Wednesday mornings at first break.
The Defence Hub is located in J2.07, next door to SSS.

Reporting Defence Related Absences

If you are a Defence member who will be posting away or deploying for a significant time, or if you are transitioning out of the ADF, could you please let me know.  This helps me and the college staff provide appropriate support for your child.
