Throughout Term 1, our teaching staff have been unpacking, trialling and learning about effective teaching strategies to improve how our students interact with feedback. An education researcher in this field, Lyn Sharratt, has developed 5 critical questions that support student self-feedback and self-evaluation to drive improvements with their learning. These 5 questions are as follows:
1. What are you learning?
2. How are you doing?
3. How do you know?
4. How can you improve?
5. Where do you go for help?
These 5 critical questions are being embedded around our college as part of a new Learning Walk initiative that will be happening across our classrooms to student the impact of feedback and to support academic growth for all learners.
Lyn Sharratt has also developed 5 critical questions that parents can ask their child to further enhance this self-reflection and feedback. These questions are:
1. What did you learn today?
2. How did you do?
3. What did you do if you didn't understand?
4. How can you improve on your learning?
5. What are you most proud of?
I would strongly encourage you to use some or all of these questions with your child to support them in quality self-feedback about their learning.
Year 10
  • Uniform - winter is coming! Now is the time to start to arrange all necessary winter uniform items before the colder weather hits. Please ensure that your child has a RVSSC branded school jumper or jacket and any other items necessary. A reminder that the uniform policy is available in the student diary and on our website.
  • Industry connections program/Work Experience - a reminder to please make sure you child is regularly checking their email inbox and clearing this out each day. Often time at lot of important emails are being missed because students aren't checking their inbox each day. Student have recently received surveys via email to express their interest in attending a number of industry connection experience at the end of Term 2. Please encourage your child to always stay up to date with their email inbox.
