Dance Academy

As we embrace the off-season and take a break from competitions, our talented Dance Academy students are focusing on strength and conditioning sessions! ✨This week, we're using therabands to enhance flexibility, build core strength, and improve overall performance. We’re so proud of their perseverance in striving to improve their skills! Their dedication truly shines through as they push themselves and support one another.

7 Dance

Year 7 Dance Students have recently completed their performance task. Students gained confidence in their performance skills and took the stage with great technical and expressive skills! They have now started their final task for the year, choreography. Students will take on the challenge of creating their own dance performance as they "dance through the ages". They will apply their knowledge of the Elements of Dance and cleverly use choreographic devices as they work in groups to finish their master piece.

9 Dance

Our Year 9 dance students are diving into the world of Mamma Mia! this term, bringing ABBA's iconic hits and 60s-inspired dance moves to life. Students are working collaboratively to develop a group choreography that captures the joy and energy of Mamma Mia! Each group brings their unique spin, blending ABBA's upbeat rhythms with retro dance styles to create a performance that promises fun, flair, and a whole lot of sparkle. The project encourages teamwork, creativity, and lets students experience the art of storytelling through movement, capturing the essence of both ABBA and the 60s dance scene.

10 Dance

This term, our Year 10 dance students are using the powerful medium of contemporary dance to explore and express significant social issues. From mental health awareness and environmental challenges to equality and justice, students are selecting topics close to their hearts, crafting choreographies that convey impactful messages.

Students are learning how movement can go beyond mere performance, serving as a profound form of expression and storytelling. Through dynamic routines, they’re developing techniques in emotional expression, body language, and symbolism, allowing them to communicate complex ideas without words.

This project encourages empathy, self-reflection, and critical thinking, as students create dances that both challenge and inspire.

Cert II Dance

Our Certificate II in Dance students are eagerly working through STILE to complete their competencies.  Each completed project brings them one step closer to earning their Certificate II, a significant milestone in their dance journey.

11 Dance

Year 11 Dance have successfully completed their final exam for Year 11 Dance! Students have been viewing Contemporary dance performances and interpreting and analysing them, applying their knowledge of dance concepts and skills to decipher meaning communicated by the dancers. For the last few weeks of term, students will move into year 12 content by learning a performance routine for their Internal Assessment #1. During this task, students will refine their technical and expressive skills in a complex Contemporary dance performance.

12 Dance

Congratulations, Year 12 dancers, on an incredible year of creativity, growth, and success! You've shown dedication, resilience, and passion in every performance, and we're so proud of all you've achieved. As you head into your final exams, remember the hard work and commitment you've put into your dance journey. Wishing you the very best of luck – may your exams be as successful as your performances. Keep dancing, keep dreaming, and know that we’re cheering you on every step of the way!

8 Drama

Exploring the world of exaggeration, characterisation and story-telling, Year 8 Drama students are currently writing their own Children's Theatre script based on children's stories or folktales. Shortly, their written creativity will come to life as the student-devised scripts are transformed into live productions by their peers. Including humour, slapstick and high-energy performance, the Drama team are hopeful that these performances may be showcased as Children's Theatre pieces for younger students in our community. We can't wait to see their scripted creations!

12 Drama

We couldn't be prouder of our Year 12 Drama students who delivered a stunning performance at RVSSC's 2024 Showcase! Their hard work and dedication shone brightly on stage, making their final performance truly unforgettable.

As they prepare for their upcoming final exams, we want to wish them the best of luck! Your passion and commitment have inspired us all, and we know you’ll shine in the external exam. Go show the world what you can do!✨

7 Music

Year 7 music students at Ripley Valley State Secondary College are making fantastic progress in their musical journeys. In Miss O'Neill's classes, students are actively composing original songs, crafting lyrics, and creatively layering samples and loops using technology to shape unique soundscapes. Meanwhile, Mr. Turner's classes are preparing for performances on their chosen instruments—piano, guitar, drums, or vocals—while building confidence and honing their fine motor skills. This blend of composition and instrumental practice is setting a solid foundation for the students’ musical education, showcasing their growing talent and dedication.

10 Music

The Grade 10 music class is embarking on an exciting journey with their program music project, where students will explore the intersection of visual media and composition. Each student will capture footage for a programmatic medium, drawing inspiration from the visuals to create an accompanying piece of music. This project not only allows students to engage their creative skills but also challenges them to think critically about how to convey emotions and narratives through sound.

As they delve into this creative process, students are demonstrating a remarkable level of imagination and ambition, considering innovative concepts that will push the boundaries of their musical abilities. Additionally, they must decide whether to produce their pieces digitally using a Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) or opt for a live performance approach. This project promises to be a fantastic opportunity for our budding musicians to showcase their talents while experimenting with new techniques and styles. Stay tuned for updates on their progress!

12 Music

As the 2024 school year comes to a close, our Senior Music program has wrapped up with notable accomplishments. ATAR students recently completed their external exams, demonstrating their hard-earned skills in a challenging assessment that demands both precision and creativity. Simultaneously, our practice students finalized their projects and performances, showcasing their unique talents through a diverse array of original compositions and arrangements. This year’s performances were a testament to the dedication and passion of our students, leaving a lasting impression on our school community.

Music is an art form that demands perfection in performance, innovation in creation, and critical analysis in evaluation. This exceptional cohort has navigated their five-year journey with remarkable resilience and artistry, and they will be greatly missed. As we bid farewell to this chapter, Mr. Ezzy expresses his excitement to see how these talented individuals continue to develop their musical skills and passions in the future. Their journey doesn’t end here, and we look forward to hearing about their continued growth and achievements in the world of music.

Instrumental Music

As we conclude the instrumental music program for 2024, we extend our heartfelt thanks to the 17 current Grade 12 students who have played a vital role in shaping and developing our music community. Their dedication and passion have inspired younger musicians and set a high standard for excellence in performance. In the final weeks of Term 4, students have been busy working on their project pieces, exploring new skills and expanding their musical horizons. From flutes mastering medieval tavern music to our drumline perfecting line work and iconic cadences, the variety of experiences has enriched our program. Even our bass guitarists are stepping out of their comfort zones by trying the drum kit for the first time!

This year has also marked a significant milestone, with a record number of students applying for additional instruments and taking on greater responsibilities within the program. The enthusiasm is palpable as students continue to collaborate in ensembles, preparing music for next year's performances. Although this chapter is closing, the spirit of creativity and camaraderie remains strong as our musicians embark on new musical adventures. We can’t wait to see what the future holds for these talented individuals and the legacy they leave behind.

Cert III CDTE

Every student passed with flying colours, demonstrating both skill and confidence in their chosen disciplines. Next, the class will be focusing on their digital portfolios, including a headshot, CV, and a polished performance show reel—essential tools for future auditions and opportunities in the creative arts industries.
