Mathematics

Welcome back to term 4. I hope everyone had a relaxing time with their family and friends. As we return to the classroom, it is important that students settle back into classroom routines, set new goals and implement strategies to achieve well in semester 2. Our students will continue to explore mathematical concepts and build on their knowledge and understanding of these concepts.

Year 7 students will explore the concepts of Statistics, Probability and Financial Maths. They will begin by learning how to calculate and interpret the mean and median of data sets and to construct data displays. They will demonstrate these skills with an in-class extended response. Then they will learn how to list sample spaces, calculate the probabilities of events and compare the cost of items. They will demonstrate these skills during an exam.

Year 8 students will be learning all about Measurement and Geometry this term as they learn how to calculate perimeter, area and volume of shapes and then moving onto triangle properties and congruency. Year 8 students will demonstrate these skills throughout two exams.

Year 9 students will also be learning about Measurement and Geometry as they calculate the area, surface area and volume of prisms and cylinders. They will then move onto calculations involving triangles as they learn about Pythagoras theorem, trigonometry and scale factor. They will be assessed with two in-class exams.

Year 10 students will be learning about algebra, statistic and financial mathematics. Students will be assesed with an exam at the end of term.

Year 11 students will have an exam block in week 4. This exam will assess their knowledge and understanding of unit 1 and 2 topics. Unit 3 content will then be delivered to start preparation for year 12 in 2025.

Our year 12 students have completed all internal assessments and are now revising for the external exam. Students are encouraged to engage with all resources provided by their teachers and available on the QCAA website in order to prepare for the exams. We wish them all the best for the external exams and their future careers.

        General Notices:

        • Mathematics tutoring is available every week. Tuesday at 1st break and Thursday at 2nd break in CG01. All students are welcome.
        • All students should be prepared for class, every lesson by bringing a scientific calculator, notebook, stationary and a charged laptop. Please support your students to be prepared for learning to ensure we can maximise our teaching & learning time.
