I hope that you had a wonderful break and are ready for a great term ahead. While term 3 is a great time to reflect on academic achievement so far, it is also a good opportunity to consider the mental wellbeing of your child. If you notice any differences in your child's appetite, sleep patterns, motivation or relationships, then it is important to encourage them to communicate their concerns to a trusted adult.

It is also crucial to encourage self-care through exercise, sleep and nutrition. Young people require daily exercise (preferably outside), a balanced diet and between 8-10 hours of sleep per night in order to function well.

There are a number of support options available to parents and young people. Kids Helpline offers some great resources on their website (www.kidshelpline.com) and Parentline offers support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week (1300 301 300). Kids Helpline is now also offering KHL Circles, which is a safe online peer support group designed to assist young people in engaging with peers. The link is available on the website.

Students also have access to support at school, and can now make appointments with me through a link on Daymap. This term, I am also running a number of support groups including: The BRAVE Program, an online cognitive-behavioural therapy program; Rock & Water, a practical group designed to assist students in building self-esteem and self-efficacy, and Seasons for Growth, a small group that helps students manage feelings associated with grief and loss. If you would like your child to take part in any of these, please email me on llodw1@eq.edu.au.

Take care
