Welcome back to Term 2. In Science this term our Year 7s will be exploring Classification of Organisms as they enter the world of Biology. This unit is often a hit because we get to use microscopes and see the world around us in a different way. Our Year 8 students are continuing their learning in the field of Chemistry and will be exploring the periodic table before moving into exo- and endothermic reactions. They will be mixing chemicals together and determining the temperature change as the bonds break and rearrange. The Year 9s are also doing Chemistry but are focussing on the atom and atomic decay. Students will be exploring how this energy can be used to time date archaeological samples or for nuclear medicine.

Our Year 12 Biology students have spent some time this week with Iain Harrison from Jacob's Well Environmental Education Centre. Iain has guided the students through a process that can be used for the data analysis for their student experiment due in a few weeks. It was wonderful to welcome him back to Ripley Valley State Secondary College to continue the work from last year's coastal field work.
